In other words, nothing new.

Yes, the Mint hasn't advertised these new quarters, but neither have they done a great job with previous changes.

But that's the silver lining. Low mintages and currently little public knowledge of the existence of the coins.

IF and I mean BIG IF... IF the public starts finding these new quarters and wants to collect them (i.e. the demand eventually increases)... then the previous two characteristics of this series of quarters will turn out to be a very very good thing for current collectors.

In the meantime, they're educational and generally good designs and thus fun to collect as is (even if we have to get them through bags from the Mint).Lasloohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11869376645350635619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-69955075707142725392010-06-01T18:29:47.362-07:002010-06-01T18:29:47.362-07:00When you go into your local supermarket, restauran...When you go into your local supermarket, restaurant, gas station, or any other generally busy establishment, ask the cashier or attendant if they've seen any Park quarters in their gisters or coin trays and you will get a blank stare and ..."Huh?".

The Mint has failed to make the general population even marginally aware of the new coins, and no one seems to care. The few who barely mention them or are cognizant of the quarters are a relative few bloggers here and whomever still 'collect' coins as a hobby. I fear the Golden Goose is mortally wounded and rapidly dieing a slow death. Nice job Moy!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-52891154552559345472010-06-01T13:55:48.444-07:002010-06-01T13:55:48.444-07:00Bring on the 5 oz. silvers!!Bring on the 5 oz. silvers!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-36692912054188700752010-06-01T13:44:03.279-07:002010-06-01T13:44:03.279-07:00I am waiting to see some comments that say, "...I am waiting to see some comments that say, "Wow, I bought the proof ATB quarters set and they are unbelievable. I am going to buy several more sets to give as gifts they are that good." But I have yet to see any comments like that. Maybe folks are just waiting to buy the whole enchilada proof set that is released later.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-58900340777815535942010-06-01T11:33:02.249-07:002010-06-01T11:33:02.249-07:00I actually think the 'design by committee'...I actually think the 'design by committee' approach to the 50 state designs created BLAH designs.

Idaho has a Peregrine falcon on it? Its not its state bird, but its state raptor? really?

There was no real consistency between state designs. No overall look to make sure duplication wasn't occurring (Wright flyer on both the NC and OH quarters)

Most of the states just used outlines of their states, and maybe their state bird/flower/tree. Is that really emblematic of the state? What people want future collectors to think about when thinking about their state?

New Hampshire had the "Old Man in the Mountain"? and then it promptly crumbled to the ground a few years later.

so, no, I disagree. I prefer a group of coin and art and history experts to come up with ideas and designs... and then have others involved in helping to decide among the choices.

While the designs on the ATB quarters haven't been perfect, I've tended to like them better then the state designs. AND they feel more consistent overall.Lasloohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11869376645350635619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-25201681387317315932010-06-01T11:01:24.679-07:002010-06-01T11:01:24.679-07:00I wonder why the mint did not use the same design ...I wonder why the mint did not use the same design process for these Park quarters as they used for the state quarters?

Maybe the mint should consider going to the state quarter coin design process for future coins as the state quarter designs were well received and showed a lot of interest for the mint.

The state quarter concept was a process consisting of nine stages, which at the end had the state picking the final designs or design.

Here we have bypassed the states it seems and have not used the states to help get the best designs possible.

For Commemorative coins maybe they should include the organization that the coin is commemorating with some input on the designs.

The state quarters were popular for many reasons, and sadly the process that arrived at those great coins has already been abandoned.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-46632137375916402352010-06-01T09:44:40.525-07:002010-06-01T09:44:40.525-07:00Yawn...
