I have been collecting coins for 40 years and have never experienced anything like this situation with the mint. I too, ordered a UHR from the mint. My order was completed within the first 6 minutes. Guess what, to date, no coin! Some days I feel more frustrated than others with what is, to me, a competency problem at the mint. Communication is terrible! I hope someone at the mint is reading this. I suspect that for every one complaint on these blogs that there are several others that don't take the time to write. I have also experienced the shifting dates syndrome and lack of adequate answers from the mint.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-45469073299346731542009-02-27T13:52:00.000-08:002009-02-27T13:52:00.000-08:00I ordered late in the day on 1/22. I am still waiting for my coin although many other customers who ordered hours if not days later (some order numbers are as high as 3086XXXX - 3088XXXX) already received their UHR’s and/or emails notified that it had been already shipped. Read the posts on any collectors coin forum with so many complains and disappointments’(great source of the information: http://forums.collectors.com/categories.cfm?catid=26). Then you know how many other “first- hour order” customers like me did not have any info about their UHR's shipment. What about the Mint FIFO policy about first-come, first-served? It is not respected and really take no place. Caling the customer service is just wasting your time -they are not aware about this mix-up in processing the orders. This is a new level of customer dis-service. I ordered the coin the first day. Did they think that no one was going to buy their product? With all of the people out of work and losing their jobs it might be a good idea of replacing the entire staff except the artisians. Is it really worth the cost to have your modern coins graded, not in my opinion. The coin was sent via UPS Next Day Air. In this case, the coin was actually shipped before it showed up on the credit card. The coin was shipped 2/24 and arrived 2/25. The credit card charge has a date of 2/24 but it didn't appear until 2/26.

Not sure what the relevance of any of this is but since you asked, those are the facts.

The question I have is since all of these coins are encapsulated fresh out of the mint, what is the point of having them graded by any of the grading services? Shouldn't they all be more or less MS 70 any way? Who cares what some arbitrary, self-serving, grading service says? What do other people think of having them graded or not? As the Mint's email stated, the book was not included.

For those who might be wondering, I did order my coin on the first day although I can't remember what time it was.
