I just don't get why the premium is falling off now while the price of gold continues to rise. It's the same thing that happened to the 3-coin silver 2006 anniversary set. Once it touched $600 per set, it dropped like a rock! The UHR touched $2,000 for a raw specimen, and is now lucky to reach $1,900. Meantime, the price of gold rose about $75. That's quite a hit to the premium numismatic value of the coin!

If it had held, the coin would be selling for close to $2,100 now.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-76564417096834929462010-10-11T12:29:10.636-07:002010-10-11T12:29:10.636-07:00Nor will my UHR be slabbed. However, at least take them out of the boxes and bring in the unopened rolls loose. That way the Mint won't be able to recognize them as direct ship rolls. They will just assume the rolls were obtained at banks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-86966398971100349802010-10-11T06:20:44.904-07:002010-10-11T06:20:44.904-07:00Question:

Would it be a violation of the mints policy to use these rolls of coins to purchase other products at the us mint kiosk in DC? I could easily deposit them at the bank, but for some reason it would seem so much more fulfilling to spend these coins at the us mint so I can give them back to them. It seems I would not be in violation of their policy as I am using them in an economic transaction and entering the coins into circulation by spending them?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4433024393760369647.post-43995277252087480462010-10-10T20:08:16.025-07:002010-10-10T20:08:16.025-07:00It almost looks like the Ultra High Relief gold co...It almost looks like the Ultra High Relief gold coin has reached a "numismatic peak" of sorts, since the prices seem to be falling off for it despite the ever-increasing price of gold. They were fetching $1,950-$2000 just a few weeks ago, but now seem to be selling more in the $1,850-$1,900 range. That is despite gold spot having risen about $75 or so during the same time span.

However, the 2006 Buffalo Gold Proof coin continues to climb, now routinely fetching $1,500+. This comes despite a mintage of over twice that of the Ultra High Relief, and the fact that the 2006 Buffalo is not even a "type" coin like the UHR. Seems kind of strange, doesn't it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
