US Mint Online Catalog Unavailable
Anyone looking to place an order for the new Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins will find that the US Mint's Online Catalog is Off-Line. Apparently online ordering will not be available for the "next couple of days." Customers can still place orders by phone, but this will be an inconvenience for many customers.
When attempting to access any of the online catalog pages the message below is displayed:
Because of a transition in service providers, the United States Mint online catalog is currently unavailable. We expect the online catalog to be back in service within the next couple of days. In the interim, our toll-free customer service number will continue to be available to our customers.
To place an order, or to inquire about the status of an order, please call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Customer Service Representatives will be available to assist you from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight (ET), seven days a week. Hearing- and speech-impaired customers may place orders and inquiries through TTY at 1-888-321-MINT (6468), Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (ET).
The Bald Eagle Commemorative Coin Program will be available for sale as scheduled, starting January 15, 2008, at 12:00 noon (ET). You may place orders via our toll-free numbers and through mail order. Information about the Bald Eagle Commemorative Coin product options and household limit information can be found in our press release in our online press room.
We expect call volume to be high during this transition period. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Please consider calling during off-peak hours, in the early morning and evening, when call volume is lower.
The expedited shipping option will not be available during the service transition period. All products ordered during this period will be shipped within our normal processing time of one to two weeks.

You have goto be kidding me. The same day the 1st commemorative coins of 2008 go on sale, the US Mint decides to change service providers. With all the issues they had last year on the Presidential Dollars and today, The US Mint truly has No Clue as to what they are doing.
What a joke! They took the site down after the sale had started. The US Mint needs to explain their actions to the average coin collector.

Seems like a really SMART move by the US Mint.
All of The idiots who are responsible for the "transition" of the web site at the moment of a new coin relaese and render the site unavailable, need to transition to new jobs, at Jack in the Box as toliet cleaners.
Question for Michael. When I was ordering the Bald Eagle Commem set from the Mint by telephone today, I asked about the status of the possible inventory of unsold 2007 W Uncirculated Burnished Gold American Eagle Coins. The agent stated that the final 2006 mintage figures would likely be available when the 2008 version of the coins go on sale. Michael, do you know when the 2008 versions of burnished gold eagles with the W mint mark will go on sale?
Anyone want to venture an opinion on whether the 2007 W Gold American Eagle Burnished Coins will be listed on the Mint's on-line catalog when it is restored?
In response to the question about when the 2008 Burnished Gold Eagles might go on sale... I don't believe a date has been published yet. But if they stick to the same schedule as last year- the 2007 Burnished Gold Eagles went on sale April 27, 2007. So perhaps towards the end of April?
1/23/08 - From Michigan, called USMint this morning at 8:05 am. then spoke to a customer rep by 8:06 am. (no delay what-so-ever). Last time I could access my account online in January, my 2008 American Eagle Silver Proof had the order pending. Rep told me today that the order has not changed, but could offer no other information. As I never had a pending order at USMint before, it left me with questions. Rep told me to call back at 9am, then ask to speak with “Headquarers”.
If anyone can offer any timely information as to what is transacting, please reply. Thanks -

Yes, they canned the provider, who they had let host the site (instead of insisting it be hosted by the Mint, which was the previous practice). Now the new provider cannot get the code. Hence, no website. You can blame the head of Sales & Marketing, Gloria Eskridge, as well as the deputy CIO, Jay Mahanand.
