2009 Lincoln Cent Coin Images and Release Dates
With the release date for the first 2009 Lincoln Cent design quickly approaching, I wanted to write a post with some updated information.
The release date for the first design has been known for many months. It is planned for February 12, 2009, which will be the exact day of the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. This will also be the first day of release for the 2009 Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar.
To my knowledge, the US Mint has still not provided an official release schedule for all 2009 Lincoln Cent designs. However, I did find release dates published on a Federal Reserve Bank site, which were noted as potentially subject to change. Many collectors have been asking whether the US Mint will offer rolls and bags of 2009 Lincoln Cents packaged for collectors. It still appears that bags and rolls will not be offered. Bags and rolls do not appear on the US Mint's product release schedule and there has been no announcement of these products.
The US Mint has announced a 2009 Lincoln Five Coin Set, which will included the four 2009 Proof Lincoln Cents and the 2009 Proof Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar. These sets will be limited to 50,000. The pricing and release date has not yet been announced.
Another common question about the 2009 Lincoln Cents is related to the 95% copper versions of the coins that will be produced for collectors. So far the only information the US Mint has released has been to indicate that the 95% copper 2009 Lincoln Cents will be included "in the United States Mint's annual product offerings." Presumably this means they will be included in the US Mint's 2009 Proof Sets and Mint Sets.

I'm surprised that the Mint is not going to offer bags and rolls of these. I would think that they would be very popular.
Great! More coins that the mint won't be able to deliver on.
I'm betting they will offer coin bags & rolls. It's a good coin and limited type so like the State-Hoods, Sacs & Prez coins, I'm thinking at some point they'll be offered. My question is How Much? That could be really interesting.

When they offered two roll Jefferson Nickel sets, they were priced at $8.95.
My guess for the 2009 Lincoln Cents... maybe $4.95 for two roll sets?

The only way to get these coins will be thru the mint? Is the mint going to release these to the general public instead of the current penny? I have heard that since they are copper, they will only produce coins for collectors. Is this true. Thanks for your time.

All four designs of the 2009 Lincoln Cent will be released into circulation. The coins released into circulation will have the standard composition of copper coated zinc.
The US Mint will produce 95% copper versions for sale to collectors. The 95% copper coins will not be released into circulation, but only available from the Mint. So far, it seems the 95% copper cents will be included in Proof Sets and Mint Sets.
Overrated crap, commemorative or not. The mint needs to officially remove the penny from circulation. Billions of these will have been minted on wasted taxpayer money in which most taxpayers will put their pennies in a jar, never to be used again (except for cashing in on a cold, rainy day). Only the 95% copper version may be worth collecting. This is just my opinion, and I believe the US Mint is taking us for chumps.

Mint price of $8.95 for a 2-roll set is high-way robbery. The mint and its employees should be prosecuted for extortion at these prices. $1.95 would be far more resonable a price. How comw dealrerrs seem to have these coins already. I have checked most banks in my town and they say they don't have and can't get them.

I just got my first one in change from the deli.
I GOT MY FIRST CENT IN THE STREET BUT IF THERE IS ANYWHERE I CAN GET THE SECOND VERSION PLEASE TELL ME.
as the new designs are released, you can always get them at the official launch ceremony via the coin exchange, and at some US mint locations on the same day. these exchanges take place at face value.
you can also buy two roll sets via the US Mint's website, however these are priced at a premium at $8.95 for two rolls.
eventually the coins should show up in circulation, but chances are spotty depending on your location. you can try calling local banks to see if they have any.
