2009 Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set
When the US Mint announced the availability of the 2009 Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Coins, they also mentioned a special 5 Coin Set, which would be available later in the year. I have some additional details on this highly anticipated set.
The product will be known as the Abraham Lincoln Coin & Chronicles Set. It will include the Proof 2009 Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar and the four Proof 2009 Lincoln Cents. These Lincoln Cents will be struck in a special composition of 95% copper, which was used on the first Lincoln Cents released in 1909. The set will include a reproduction of the Gettysburg Address, an image of Abraham Lincoln with his signature printed in gold foil below, and a certificate of authenticity. The set will be housed in a matching hardcover slipcase.
The "Coin & Chronicles Set" format has been used for a few other recent commemorative coins. Previous sets have included the commemorative silver dollar together with reproduced historical documents or other items. The 2005 John Marshall Coin & Chronicles Set included an intaglio print and booklet, and the 2006 Benjamin Franklin Coin & Chronicles Set included postage stamps and a reproduction of Poor Richards Almanack.
Many collectors have been eagerly awaiting the 2009 Lincoln Set. It will present another opportunity to purchase the 2009 Lincoln Commemorative, which is now sold out. More notably, it will also be an opportunity to obtain the 2009 Lincoln Cents struck in 95% copper. All of the 2009 Lincoln Cents struck for circulation have a composition of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper. The 95% copper cents will be struck for this special set, as well as the US Mint's other annual coin sets.
Only 50,000 of the sets should be available, as this is the number of 2009 Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollars which have been reserved from the maximum authorized mintage. The price of the 2009 Lincoln Coin & Chronicles Set will be $55.95. The availability date and other ordering details have not yet been announced.
I would anticipate that a household ordering limit will in place for the offering. In my opinion, even if the limit is set at one per household, the Lincoln Sets will sell out quickly, probably on the first day of sales.

Lets just hope there is a limit so people like myself that barely got any of the new lincoln stuff might actually have a chance to own a chronicle set. Its a sure bet the coin wolves will be prepared to make sure they get as many sets as they can to rip off the public on resale. Seems the mint plays dealer favoritism to me. I sure hope not in this case.

As I have stated in comment on another post: This one will disappear faster than Pam Andersons shorts at a rock star convention. Get online as soon as the mint opens the door. It might take two days to sell out but I wouldn't count on it.
Then why don't we see it on the MINT release schedule which by the way, goes through winter?

Got my UHR finally at the first price and my Lincoln single have been pushed back to 041709 but still no ship. So, when would the MINT set the date for this Lincoln Comm Set? Patience part of the game.

I'll be jumping on this Cronicle Set...1st without all the other normally distributed coins ie: quarters, monetery other and such. This set would be specific to only Lincoln deplection coins. And, 1st of the style change...aka Sacajawaha change.

I would definitly buy a set and wait 6 months of chaos to get it LOL. I heard a law was passed this month to produce a ultra high relief set with one pallidium version and one gold version. Does any one know if this this true?

Not sure where to put this blog. My bank (very small local bank) has just gotten the new lincoln cents in. I got two rolls for a $1 My question is: How can I tell which Mint they came from? They are wraped in plastic and came out of a Brinks box at the bank. I did not notice any mint marks on the coins and did not ask at the bank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can see the heads side of one of the coins on any of the rolls, look immediately beneath the date.
If they are Denver mint coins, they will have a "D" mint mark there. If they are Philadelphia, there will not be a mint mark.
Great info Mike, I am so glad I found your web page. It has provided me with many answers to everything I always wanted to know about the US Mint, but that I was afraid to ask, LOL. As most of you know, not only are we having trouble obtaining our orders but if you have a current order being shipped, just take a look at how many days will pass usually before FedEx updates their data. Still waiting for my 1 proof Lincoln and 1 set of Lincoln pennies. I doubt I will ever receive them. It is very fishy how so many of these very items are selling on Ebay. How did they get them so quick?

I just received 20 Lincoln proofs and 25 Lincoln uncirculated. I see no reason why you wouldn't receive yours. I'm sorry I didn't order more; I like the coin.

I didn't get mine because of people like you that order 20 or more at a time. You keeping all 20? I just wanted two. One for me and one for my nephew. You wanted more? So much for the collectors getting one before someone like yourself gigs them on ebay to get one.

Am I keeping all 20? Probably not. I'm sure I'll be giving many as gifts to family.
Am I selling them on e-bay? Probably never. The gain from selling these coins could not change my life at even 10x the buy price. I hope to enjoy them for a long time.

Not all collectors are created equal, or ever think in unison. I've ordered 5 of everything possible(sometimes a few more)for over 40 yrs. Why? I have 2 offspring who I had hoped would have a grandson/daughter of their own one day. Both married, both now in their 40's, each has no children. Probably never will, so there goes my intention to give granchildren and my 2 kids a nice collection each one day, while keeping the 5th item for myself. That was the goal. Do I need 5? No. Will I ever stop ordering 5? No. Who knows, someday.......
Don't be too hard when someone orders a larger quantity of something you may not have been able to access, there's probably a most plausible good reason. Not everyone is money hungry. Peace.

You like a specific coin so much that you could buy 100 of the same exact coin just because you like it that much? Not talking rolls, but commemoratives etc. Sounds more like hoarding then collecting. Hope you own a vault.
I think basically all the post was saying is, if you can obtain any of this unique items what you do with them is your own business. It is unfortunate that some take advantage for quick bucks at the expense of those who truly love to collect coins. As for the post wanting one for a nephew, I hope he will get one. I don't buy these items on ebay myself, but I have noticed some of the prices are lowering down toward what the mint sold them for. They have peaked and are now dropping.
Can we forget this and remember Michael's post was about the "2009 Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set".
Just another set with limited availability that will probably be seen the following day on Ebay at minimum..... triple the cost. These were made for true collectors, but have become items for scavengers to make money at our expense.

I love coins.I love Lincoln.And I love getting coins cheaper on ebay than at the mint.The sooner they sell out at the mint.The sooner I can get them cheaper on ebay.And whats even better is.I can get them graded and well protected with the original mint packaging included.FOR LESS MONEY THEN YOU PAY AT THE MINT.So as a rule I have learned to be patient and snipe the poor idiots who think they are going to make money by buying at the mint and having them graded.The way I feel is.As long as there are people willing to pay my grading fees and give me the original packaging at a lower cost then the mint charges.Then I will take advantage of them and never feel bad about it.Plus it's a great way to keep your investments down to a minimum and keep your coins well protected.Just go look,point,aim,and snipe the poor free shippers on ebay.GOOD LUCK
Bought by accident Lincoln coin set. Hope it works out. eBay wolves are already at work on Lincoln coin sets.
Got Pres. Tyler, I bought both coin sets of his wives, Letitia and Julia coins. Except couldn't afford gold coins!. Since he only Pres w/2 wives in office. Got US proof & unc. territory coins.
I did get some error coins in change, but that's another story.
I was very disappointed to find out that the mint had sold out of these and never sent out an email about it! I have a regular subcriptions and always getting emails about the coins, but nothing about this one! I did finally get one set, but it was pricey. The amount of collectors has grown by leaps. I wish I had found this blog before the big sell out! I will be watching this blog in the future. Thanks.
