2009 Native American Dollar Design Released
On Friday, The US Mint released the reverse design for the upcoming 2009 Native American Dollar.
The new series will feature the obverse design of the Sacagawea Dollar and rotating reverse designs which recognize the contributions and history of Native Americans. The reverse designs will be changed once per year. The coins will be issued for circulation each year, along with the four releases of the Presidential Dollar series. It will be required that at least 20% of all dollar coins minted each year will be Native American Dollar coins.
The design for 2009 features a Native American woman planting seeds in a field of corn, beans, and squash, representing the Three Sisters method of planting. The reverse was designed by Norman E. Nemeth and appears below.
