2010 America the Beautiful Quarters Release Dates
I have tracked down some specific release dates for the 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters. Until now, the US Mint has only provided a release schedule by month, except for the first coin of the series featuring Hot Springs National Park, which will be released later this month.
The new series featuring National Parks and National Sites from each state, U.S. Territory, and the District of Columbia will get off to somewhat of a slow start. Other circulating coin series with rotating designs have usually had the first coin released in January or February.
The release dates for the five 2010 America the Beautiful Quarters will be spaced from four to nine weeks apart, with the smallest gap between the first and second releases and the widest gap between the third and fourth releases.

Yellowstone National Park Quarter - June 1, 2010
Yosemite National Park Quarter - July 26, 2010
Grand Canyon National Park Quarter - September 20, 2010
Mount Hood National Park Quarter - November 15, 2010
View the final design selections for each quarter, which were announced on March 24, 2010.
Whether the America the Beautiful Quarters will be readily obtainable through the channels of circulation remains to be seen. The Federal Reserve Banks, which are responsible for distributing circulating coins to depository institutions, do not have any special ordering procedures in place for the new quarter series. This means that banks will not be able to place coin orders specifically for the newly released quarters. Even if coin orders are placed on or around each release date, there will be no guarantee that the banks will receive any of the newly designed coins.
The Federal Reserve Banks do have special ordering procedures in place for the Presidential Dollar coins. During designated special order periods, banks can order unmixed quantities of the current release in $1,000 boxes of wrapped $25 rolls. Similar procedures were also in place for the 50 State Quarters Program.
If the newly released America the Beautiful Quarters are not readily available at banks, collectors will need to consider the US Mint's premium priced bags and rolls or secondary market venues like eBay. Collectors close to the park or site being depicted could also take advantage of coin exchanges following official launch ceremonies.

I had heard last year from the handful of banks in my area that were able to get unmixed rolls of the Territories quarters that they would not be able to get the America the Beautiful series that way. I was hoping they were wrong, but it seems they were right after all.
This might bode well for the U.S. Mint roll sets for the new series. Somehow, new quarters mixed in with old, dirty ones just doesn't feel good for the collector. The rolls of unmixed quarters in special Mint paper look much more attractive compared to the mixed option, despite the premium price tag. If the Mint sells only a similar quantity to the 2009's, the 2010 roll sets might not last too long.
I will be collecting the series for myself and my son regardless. Despite prices and availability being what they are, I believe interest in the series will start picking up with each release.

What about the 5oz Silver American the Beautiful coins? Are the mint still making them?
Can anyone shed some light on how the coin exchange will work for quarter? I was at several of the Lincoln 'Cent Events' (6 rolls per each time thru the line), but do not know how the State Quarters were released or how these 2010 - 2021 releases will be handled.
No proof silver eagles for this year according to Moy as of two days ago. No proof gold eagles either for 2010.

Yes, last statements have indicated a release by mid-year.

Do you mean the Coin World article stating that their status was in doubt if demand for bullion coins continues? That's the latest I have heard. Not too encouraging, but at least it's still not definite.

That would be a great idea. I hope they do something like this. The authorizing legislation specifically authorizes the National Park Service to repackage and resell the 5 oz. silver bullion coins. Presumably they would also do something similar with the quarters.
Off-topic I know, but almost everyone selling their 2009 Buffalo Gold Proof coins on eBay are taking a loss. This is even assuming the ones being sold were bought for the lowest Mint offering price of $1,360. If they bought them for the $1,410 or $1,460 levels their losses are even worse. I knew that was going to happen all along.
With the 2009 Gold Buffaloes just recently sold out and the price of gold bound to keep going up, how do you come up with your conclusion??
I was basing that on the completed auctions on eBay. Check them out for yourself. Even some graded coins aren't selling for as much as what the Mint sold them for.
It's true that gold is climbing right now, but it's not "bound" to keep going up.
It is time for some new coins...
How about the mint producing $5, $10, $20 and hundred dollar coins.
My wallet is "too fat" with all the bills I need to carry...

I will not be able to be at the Hot Springs release because I will be on Texas coast welcoming the birds migrating north. Otherwise I would be there. Too bad, in 2010, all the quarters are out west. I will be going to Grand Canyon release as we are combining it with Las Vegas trip.
Since the release dates are all on monday (or day after holiday) at least we know the week of the release event, which is something that was asked of Director Moy in Springfield in Feb.. He gets an attaboy!

To the commenters up a few comments re: buffaloes. I bought an 09 buff at the intial price and thought it was a pricey little dude then. I like buffaloes and I also figured it might be a long term item due to its price. I believe there is a good possibility that flippers and dealers bought a boat load of the 09's and are unloading them now because they got in over their head. That would keep the going price down in the short run. The 09 might be my last as I believe they 10's if they show up are gonna shrink the collector base even more because of price. Ironically a high price on '10's might make them more collectable if the mint price for the '10's gets closer to 2 large the mint may end up with only a 10,000 mintage like the last platinum proof. Who knows. Make your best guess and as always buy what you like and can afford.

I think my wife and I might go to the Hot Springs Ceremony if we can get vacation days approved. I will try to find out for sure tomorrow.
If you would send me some of the empty shells for your coin covers with the .44 postage on them, I'd be happy to get them cancelled there for you. I'd then return them to you to put the coins in them. I might be able to send you some coins from the ceremony itself (most likely P Mint if past patterns hold), so at least those coins inside the covers could be from the actual ceremony.

That would be great if I could send some your way for cancellation! For now, the stamp I'm using is the Liberty "Forever" stamp. I searched around on the post office website for something more meaningful but couldn't find something that I could have gotten in reasonable quantities. Maybe for the next cover, I can get a better stamp.

The only other thing to note is that the official release date is Monday, April 19th. The ceremony itself will be April 20th. The cover I created talks about the actual release date, i.e. April 19th. So, for these covers, at the least, I need cancellations for the 19th. Not sure why Moy couldn't get both to fall on the same day like the Lincoln pennies, but oh well.
However, it might be good to hold on to them for the next day as well and see if any special postal cancellations are available for the ceremony itself on the 20th and just add those to the covers. The Presidential covers seemed to do that. One normal cancellation from the post office near the ceremony and an extra one that was only available at the ceremony and had the image of the President on it.

I didn't check that, I thought the CEREMONY was on the 19th! I can't take two vacation days right now, so now I probably can't even go at all! I was planning on driving down on Sunday and spending the night. It's about 7 hours each way, so it would be too hard to drive down after work on Monday and drive back on Tuesday after the long day at the ceremony. I'm really sorry to get your hopes up due to my not having my ducks in a row before I spoke.

I do understand why the ceremony is on the 20th... that's the same day the park opened 178 years ago. But why couldn't the Mint hold off one more day to actually "release" the coin?
In any case, if anyone else might be around Hot Springs on the 19th, give me a ring.
If the Yosemite Quarter doesnt get introduced till JULY then how am i holding it in my hand right now? i have not followed coins for some years now, so im just curious any one know e mail me, edenloffphotography@hotmail.com
